Planning outfits for a week or two ahead of time

It’s vacation time. Many of us travel somewhere for a week or two in summer to relax from the day-to-day duties, see something different, explore, meet friends and family, etc. No matter for what reason you travel, it means packing for the days ahead. What to pack, of course, depends on where you go. You need different attire when you travel for business on a field-trip to Italy as a female engineer than when you pack for sightseeing. When you travel for leisure, again packing differs when you pack for a dance cruise or when you pack for a resort vacation. All in common is that you have to come up with outfit ideas for an entire week ahead of time, while minimizing the pieces you need to create a week in outfits.

You have to plan your outfits for several days ahead when limited to a capsule wardrobe. #vacationstyle Click To Tweet

Creating an outfit for the day everyday of the week

It is obvious that a vacation wardrobe is limited by the size of your (allowed free) baggage. You are damned to a capsule wardrobe planing outfits ahead. But how do you dress when you have the full potential of your closet? Do you plan the outfits for a week ahead? Certainly not.

When you are like me, you look at the forecast. Well, I look at the NWS prediction and the satellite images for Alaska to make my own forecast. Then I dress with my weather expectation, my plans for the day in mind – such as is there a meeting or not, will I have time to change when going out, etc. A work meeting in summertime requires a different logistic than dressing to go from work to picnic in one outfit. You get the idea. In other words, unless there is a special event on a given day you probably have no plan what to wear that day days before.

I thought it may be interesting to share what I wore in a week. I will leave out the PJs. Alaskans have a weird relation to their PJs. I also leave out my Alaskan yard gear for moving the lawn. Well I also leave out my birth costume that I don under the shower. 😉

So let’s begin with last Thursday.

Thursday thoughts – mix it up

Karina Dresses fit-and-flare polka garment, Tommy Hilfiger sandals, Jord men’s watch, Hermes collier de chien bangle, Kieselstein Cord crocodile imprinted belt (all own), sunnies c/o, and tote c/o thirty-one

Casual (Fashion) Friday

I wore my new Ethyl jeans and plaid shirt (see the post at the link for the review). Blue and white are great for the office as they are a classic color combination.

Sunday dance attire

On Sunday, I mowed the lawn and did some gardening. I just ignored the rain as the work had to be done. In Alaska, the Sun is up 24/7 seven days a week. When one doesn’t keep up with mowing and ripping out trees, the yard turns into a Boreal forest in no time. But the midnight Sun and Sunday had to be celebrated with a special outfit when going out dancing.

Monday Outfit

I work at a university in the science field. There casual is the norm unless there is a meeting with “higher ups”. It’s Alaska. Thus, think along the lines of Carhartt, North Face, etc., whatever outdoor gear comes to mind. My nickname is “the fashion model”.

I don’t mind. It just refers to the fact that my outfits are not those typical for an atmospheric scientist/geophysicist. Well, I am a modeler, literally. In other words, I use numerical atmospheric models to examine how atmospheric processes change when you alter the land-cover, the emissions, etc. It’s computer work meaning I don’t need to go in the field and wear outdoor clothing like most of my colleagues.

Trendy Tuesday

When you are already on my email list, you already know that I wore my new Lizzy James bracelet necklace look on Tuesday.

Wednesday red, white and blue

I have to admit that this outfit was planned ahead. Actually, I had two outfit inspirations in mind. One for nice weather and seeing the bands, parades, etc. in honor of Independence Day at Pioneer Park, and another one in case of rain. When it rains on the 4th, we always watch the movie Independence Day. Since the Sun was out, I wore my Karina polka dot dress with my Keds. You have seen the Keds styled with a skirt before. The polka dot dress is the one shown above in this post.

What I wear today

Now to the OOTD.

I hope you enjoyed the week in outfits. Let’s now see what you are wearing or wore this week. I am always looking forward to your awesome looks.
