Instructions to Determine Your Body Shape

Your body shape is your horizontal body type.

  1. Wearing a regular bra (i.e., a non-padded bra, and not a minimizer or Wonderbra) measure your bust circumstance at the height of your nipples with a fabric or fiber tape. Write the measure down.
  2. Measure your natural waist at its slimmest point. This point should be below the rib cage and above the navel. Record the measure.
  3. Measure your hip at its widest point as seen from the front and side. Typically, this point is right at the fullest part of your butt at the height of the hip bone. Again take note of the value.

Detect Your Vertical Body Type

Are all four quadrants of your body about the same lengths within plus minus and inch or so (±2.5cm)?

Is your torso length longer than your leg length?

Is your torso length shorter than your leg length?

Are your torso and legs of the same lengths, but the sum of the lengths of your second and third quadrants (aka mid-section) is shorter than the sum of the lengths of your first and fourth quadrants?

You have a perfect vertical body type! You are lucky! Your vertical body type is well balanced and have the same length. This means most clothes will fit you without having to see the tailor to nip in/let out darts etc. Even when you gain weight you will still have a perfect vertical body type.
Long torso, short legs
For this body type a major goal is to create vertical balance between her upper and lower torso. This means to create the illusion of longer legs. High heels or wedge heels are great options to balance this vertical body type. Balanced torso and legs, but a short mid-body
The good news is your legs and torso are balanced. Your uppermost and lower most quadrant are longer than your mid-section. Commonly, people call this body type This vertical body type is also known as "short-waisted." Your dressing goal is to avoid drawing attention to your bust and hips. YGo for moderate jacket lengths, and stay away from cropped or tunic styles, raised waists or low rise. Go for a natural waistline.
