Dress + clutch + pumps = instant chic | Linkup

There is this statement that

a dress with pumps and a clutch is instant chic.

It’s true, when you have the right well tailored day dress in a cut that suits your body shape. In this case, just add a clutch and pumps and you are ready to go.

A great dress can fail to provide instant chic

Recall Princess Diana’s worst looks were those when she wore a shift dress. Her shift dress was well tailored, high quality fabric and craftsmanship, top designer, but it hadn’t this instant chic factor with her expensive clutch and pumps. She like most of us just hadn’t the right body shape to rock shifts.

The dress must balance the proportions

Posh instant chic style is all about balance. For example, when you are full-breasted and have small hips (apple shape) a fit-and-flare dress is your friend as the skirt balances the proportions. When you are top heavy a sheath dress may be too loose around your hips. However, a sheath gives a boyish frame some curves.

When you have full hips and are small breasted (pear shape) the dress should have a statement cut or some “drama” (e.g. big bow, ruffles, embroidery, sequins, lighter colors) at the top part of the dress. This trick draws the eye upward and highlights your waist. When the dressing occasion allows go for a strapless style. At the office, wrap dresses with a cami underneath are a great instant style. You are the person who can rock a knee-length shift or A-line style dress. A sheath dress is also instant style for you.
