Don’t Let the Mother’s Day’s Commerce Turn You Off
Mother’s Day is a big economic event. Yes. However, it is important for every mom as well. Of course, nobody likes the commerce around it, but Mom would be so disappointed if you would not come up with something special for her. At least, make sure you are looking great in your clothes as a Mother’s Day gift.
Do What You Did as Kid
Remember, when you were in elementary school, teachers always came up with a DIY project to create a gift for Mother’s Day. Of course, most likely you can’t get away with this anymore, but you can create a Mother’s Day outfit that won’t upset her. In plain English, I always tried to avoid to break her fashion rules without violating my own style. When you visit your mom on Mother's Day avoid wearing something that upsets her. #MothersDay Click To Tweet
Remember the Fun You Had with DIY for Mother’s Day?
As a kid, you made her breakfast on Mother’s Day. Thus, why not inviting her for brunch? Make sure you make a reservation before you invite her. You might otherwise end up with having invited her for brunch, but don’t get a spot.
Mother’s Day Tradition of My Childhood
When I was a kid, my siblings and I celebrated Mother’s Day by making breakfast for my mom. We gave her also a little gift. Typically, my brother bought her red lipstick. My sister and I rotated in giving her pralines and her favorite liquor. Liquor? Yes! Of course, in Germany it was forbidden to sell alcohol to kids. However, in the week of Mother’s Day, the owner of the local store sold liquor, wine, and brandy to the kids.
Mother’s Day as a Young Woman
In later years, as a young adult, I just called my mom when I could not come on Mother’s day and brought her the gift the next time I came visiting. After I immigrated to the States, I sent her a gift by mail and called her on Mother’s Day. When she was lucky or I, she had the package in the week of Mother’s Day. It worked out most the time. One time, she never got the gift. Customs had decided (for reasons unknown to me) that they send it back.
Mother’s Day Tradition as a Faculty
The University of Alaska Fairbanks has their commencement on Mother’s Day. In our department several students are graduating. Last week I overheard one of them saying that his graduation is the best Mother’s Day gift ever for his mother. What was your best Mother’s day gift ever? Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms out there.
Happy Mother’s Day.

Last Minute Gift Suggestions
Do you have already a gift for her? If not, there are some last minute gift suggestions beyond buying super-expensive flowers. Have you realized how the prices for flowers go up each year around Mother’s Day? 🙁
- Jewelry and accessories are always welcome. No women ever said she has enough jewelry. #Mothersday Click To Tweet
- Did you know that you can also buy a gift card for a wooden watch. Then she can do the pick.
- You may even want to give yourself a wooden watch as a Mother’s Day gift when you are a mom. 😉 One day in a blue moon, I will get a second wooden watch for sure. The wooden band is so nice on the skin when it gets hot in summer.
- A new bag in a color that goes beyond the neutrals makes also a very nice gift.
