Feather skirts are It this fall
Feathers pop every couple of years on the runway. Sort of, when the last feather item was tossed from the closets with a sudden it is back. I loved feather stoles and hems on dresses when I was a kid. Of course, I had neither a a stole nor such a gown. However, I adored the awards shows were some celebrities wore the stoles and the ballroom dance shows. At that time, it was required for the follow to wear a gown with ostrich hem. Sure that my first ballroom gown had to have such an embelishment. You can also imagine that I am exited about the trend. This post addresses how to wear the look over 50 without looking like trying to hard or not trying at all.
Can you wear a feather skirt over 50?
Sure, you can. It even gets better! You don’t need to be a ballroom dancer to get away with it. Sure thing like in the 70s, you can wear a maxi or tea-length A-line feather skirt at the opera or another formal event. A sequin or matching chiffon top are nice option. In case of a maxi length, go for pumps. Strappy sandals can catch the feathers. You don’t want to have them also on your sandals. A straight just above the knee length goes also for date night or girls’ night out. Sheer pantyhose in black looks great with cock-tail like feathers. A graphic or plain Tee avoid to be overly sexy. We know that showing less skin is more. Keep them guessing.

How to style the feather trend for day
This time around, the trend is not just for evening. In the styling example, I paired a black short sleeve cashmere sweater from fall with an oversized denim jacket. Since the feathers and light color add volume, it’s important to add some shape. I used a belt – my fav accessory for this job – to accentuate the waist. Well, and it even works with the mandatory mask.

What goes with a feather skirt?
You can wear a feather skirt at day with a graphic Tee, denim shirt or even a cashmere sweater. And when the temperatures drop and frigid air creeps everywhere, you can even go for a layered look.

Never worry again what to wear when. Just look it up in my style book How to Dress for Success in Midlife. Buy the book now.

Liebe Nicole!
