Bohemian Style over 40
For me modern (contemporary) Bohemian Style is rooted in the 70s, read so 70s. It developed from the Flower Power movement and became one of the mainstream style type. Actually, Bohemian Style is much older than 50 years. However, I still associate with the style the classic Bohemian look of Ali McGraw with some kind of Bohemian glam/luxe involved.
Of course, I adored this style in the 70s like all the other gals, but wasn’t allowed to wear it, not even in the eternal way Ali did. There are two reasons: I did not have the allowance to buy these eternal pieces and my Mom often just bought clothes for my sister and me without us having a word in it. 🙁 So I had a hard time to go for the look I wanted. When you are a long-term reader of this blog you already know about my fight to get a pair of jeans.
70s trends are challenging for babyboomer born in the 60s
As with all 70s trends, I find them very challenging. When you were already wearing these styles back then, you have to pay attention to styling the trend in a fashion forward, modern, read contemporary way to avoid to look like you want to relive the past. It’s a hard to master and tricky trend when it’s a second time around. I don’t know about you, but I am very happy who I am now and would decline a time-travel to my kid and teen years any time.
The outfits in this post are examples of my way to interpret the Bohemian trend over 40. Interested in the origins of certain styles or clothing items? If so, you may like to read about the fashion history of the Janker, or graphic Tees.

Welcome to the 54th Top of the World Style fashion linkup party. Thanks to those of you who linked up last week. You are all so stylish! I can’t wait to see what you are wearing this week. As you see below, I made some minor changes to the party’s look. Link up how you wear the Bohemian trend in addition to your OOTD.
I now feature the Top of the World OOTD as full photos. As usual, I will feature the post that was clicked the most and an outfit that I love with a photo from that post assuming that by linking up you are ok with being featured.
Let’s see whose post won the features as the Top of the World OOTD this week. The title Readers’ Fav OOTD goes to Lizzy. She is the blogger of What Lizzy Loves.
Grace at Color and Grace became My Fav OOTD. Interestingly, both outfits have a bold pop of color. It is zeitgeist, I guess. Do you like the neutral look plus bold color trend as much as I do?
