In general, what goes well with a denim jacket depends on the cut and color. Cropped boxy styles work well with pencil skirts and sheaths. The trucker style is best for casual looks. Tailored styles look great with girly or romantic style. Oversized pieces ask for sleek bottoms, and go well with gamine style.
The easiest way is to style the piece like you would style a black bomber jacket. Add jeans, linen pants, and chinos with a T-shirt or white or solid color button-down shirt and sneakers for a casual look. Adding loafers or pumps as well as a necklace or scarf create a posh casual vibe.
