When you are the graduate, it is straight forward what to wear. The same is true when you are the faculty. You just wear the regalia according to its code. But what to wear when you are the mom of the graduate?
Well of course not, what Mrs. Robinson was wearing in The Graduate. A bombshell style look is not a good idea. Instead, create an outfit that is comfortable for sitting thru three hours, and can go from the early morning festivities to the reception after commencement. When the commencement is in a station, make sure your have sunglasses and some cover up like a cardigan or jacket that matches your outfit in case the weather gets nasty. Indoor multi-purpose halls may be air-conditioned and chilly too. Thus, having a warp, shawl or wide scarf is a good backup plan too. Go for light colors and steer away from anything black. A medium-size lady-like tote is a practical option as it permits to carry a cover-up, your camera, a bottle of water, sun cream, reading glasses and a book to read.
Here are some outfit suggestion:
- Sundress with statement belt, summery clutch or small tote bag, and sandals
- Pencil skirt with button-up blouse, 2.5 inch (7.5 cm) classic pumps, a cardigan and a lady-like bag
- Midi chiffon dress with strappy sandals, day clutch and a cropped jacket
- Silky joggers with white button-up shirt long leopard print or striped jacket with small shoulder bag and open-toe pumps
