In this post, I share how to create fall outfits with a pleated plaid skirt for the office and date night early in the season. While mixing patterns is a big thing right now, it can easily look like you had dressed in the dark. Especially, when it comes to pieces that scream summer and romantic style like, for instance, gingham, vs. pieces that have a punk-vibe like leather and/or plaid. See how to create interesting, effortlessly stylish looks with a pleated plaid midi skirt.
Plaid Is a Big Trend in Fall
I love tartan or plaid and wool skirts. I still remember the pleated plaid/tartan skirt my Godmother Berta gave me when I was about five. It had extenders and I wore it until second grade. Later in life a plaid pleated skirt was always in my wardrobe. As a long-time reader of my blog, you may remember my pink plaid skirt from summer. Because plaid is normally associated with the cold season that skirt is a great piece to transition into fall on the warmer days early in the season with summer-to-fall transition outfits.
Layering Is Key When Styling a Gingham Shirt for Fall
To wear a gingham blouse as a great summer-to-fall transition look – temperature and style wise, go for a stylish layering for thermal comfort. A blue long sleeve halftee underneath the gingham button-down, and then a leather jacket on top for the commute to work. Keep the look in the color theme – in this outfit inspiration red-white and blue.
Heels Are a Must with a Midi Skirt for Petites
Midi skirts can be tricky on petites. Thus, to elongate my legs I went with nude heels. I also accentuated my waist with a belt. I went for a nearly monochromatic look which always gives the impression to be taller than one actually is.

What Shoes to Wear with a Pleated Plaid Skirts?
Red pointy toe pumps are great for a date night outfit. Nude pumps or block heels are great for a work appropriate look. The nude color makes the legs look long.

Up-dos Are a Do this Fall
I went for an up-do with a knot low in the back. On purpose, I left some strands sticking out. It looks a little bit more French woman style than going for a perfect up-do. Especially, in midlife, a “perfect” up-do can look matronly. Well, in my opinion. Moreover, I like the strand to play with. More fall trends for women over 40.

Outerwear that Works with an Outfit with a Pleated Plaid Midi Skirt
Never forget to style your outerwear! It would be a wasted chance to look great and to have fun and be creative. A classic, read traditional pea coat works great with a pleated skirt because it gives you a waist.

Hats Are Big this Autumn
There were hats all over the runways at fashion weeks for this fall/winter season. Therefore, I topped the outerwear outfit with one of my thrift-store finds: A cute pillbox.
Customization, Sustainable Options, Signature Style, and Making a Statement
Within the the increasing demand for sustainability, revertible plaid skirts hit the market. Thus, one pleated plaid skirt provides two different color impressions.

While many women go for a classic, sophisticated style to look their best in plaid, the details of a plaid skirt offer even more opportunities for personalization. Custom patches are a great addition.
PVC patches can be customized with unique patterns, text, or designs, eliminating the awkwardness of having to wear the same style as everyone else. Whether applied to the hem, waistband, or pleats, they add a unique touch to any fall look, perfect for work, dating, or any other occasion. Best of all, custom patches are quick to produce and can be delivered quickly to meet your needs.
