What I Chose for the Review of Femme Luxe Dresses Jeans and Joggers and Why

I browsed the page for clothing and trends that may look great on a midlife woman. Thus, I picked the mid wash Genesis flare jeans as a trendy update of what to wear on Casual Friday. For bouncing around on the weekend I picked the Evie camo print joggers in white and in khaki both in UK size 8 (US size 4). Why the same type of pants twice? I wanted to test how the fit varies among the same size.

Because Interior Alaska continues to produce cold air masses, a classic long thick sweater knit dress seemed to be in order. Who wants to throw style out of the window just because it’s cold outside? I picked the Penelope because of its work appropriate length and the modest turtleneck, just in case. Because knit dresses are versatile to style I tried body-conscious dresses for going out.

I was curious whether one could create comfortable, but sexy going-out outfits, without looking sloppy or going over the top with the following knit dresses.

moch mini dress as cheap must-have for going out with the girls
The mocha color and design are lovely, and the dress is super soft. Unfortunately, my thighs and butt are too big, and my petite frame is too short (5 ft 4; 163 cm) for this beautiful mini-dress. As a result, the slit falls exactly at the place where my thighs are the widest. Therefore, I will have to return it. However, it will probably look great on petites with slim legs as an above-the-knee length, and tall women with slim legs as a mini-dress. On cool summer nights, this Mocha Knitted Rib V Neck Long Sleeve Side Split Bodycon Mini Dress – Dolly will look great with a pair of sneakers, and cross-body bag.

This Grey Knitted Balloon Sleeve Side Split Longline Midi Cardigan- Emmy would also look great with joggers/straight jeans and Tee with chunky sneakers for casual look.

Furthermore, I reviewed a pair of distressed mom-jeans as a styling challenge for myself, lounge-wear because I never owned any, a mesh-dress for dancing, a pink knit-sweater dress for new business casual office  looks with a spring vibe, and a black utility jacket/shirt dress as a year-round wardrobe basic replacement, sort of.

As is demonstrated in the photos the dress permits movement with its high side slit. The see-thru of the mesh material requires wearing leggings and a layering top underneath.

I was looking for a jersey or knit winter dress in olive for a long time. This faux wrap midi version made the cut because I loved the wrapping details. I wasn’t sure about the interesting statement sleeves.

The dress with wrap detail has no annoying back zipper, i.e. no hassle to ask your significant other for help. You pull it over your head or when you are like me, step into it and pull it up and push your arms into the sleeves. Which ever way you prefer.

The Quality of the Attire Works Well for a Trendy Wardrobe Update

The camo pants are $26.08 each, the cream high neck knitted side split jumper dress costs $24.78, and the mid wash denim high waist flared jeans are $15.00. When I opened the package, I was happy to see that the quality of all pieces exceeded my expectations. The clothing provides a lot of value for its price. None of the pieces looks cheap, which is very important for a midlife fashionista. Who wants to look like you rioted your daughter’s or even grand-daughter’s closet?

This means that all products solve their intended function, a late winter update of cold weather weekend and work style. See the snap shot photos of me wearing the attire in the wild of Alaska. I definitely would buy them when I had to pay for them.

How to Style an Oversized Jumper Femme Luxe Knit Dress

Maybe it’s the comfort or it’s that they are practical, but I have a thing for knit dresses. Maybe it’s just sentimental memory. My late mom used to knit garments for my sister and me. I liked to wear them with my brown belt that had a huge two circles buckle. When I saw this pink knitwear, I had to try it out.

The knit feels so soft. My dry skin really loves the touch. This long sleeve oversized jumper is machine washable and wrinkle-free, i.e. low maintenance. Who likes ironing anyway?

This apparel is a perfect wardrobe addition. It can be styled casual with a denim jacket for the weekend and office-appropriate with a belt and scarf or under a blazer. It is a perfect match for thick opaque tights and heavy winter boots.

You can’t go wrong with pink because it’s such a feminine color! Pink is a spring classic. Wear pink with the winter neutrals like brown, black, navy, burgundy, winter-white and gray. It also goes with the spring neutrals like light blue, beige, camel, and light gray for a desaturated look.

How to Style the Mid Wash Distressed Ripped Mom Jeans the Alaska Way

Full disclosure: I’m not a fan of mom jeans, but ordered them anyway as a challenge for myself to demonstrate one can style them in a chic way. I can’t wait to hear what you think. Pin the look if you like it too.

I ordered these in a UK size 6 (US size 2). They have some spandex so they fit like a glove. I styled them how Alaskan women wear their distressed mom jeans. Wear tights underneath. I wish I had ordered them a size up so I could wear them with the sweater pants of the new lounge wear (see photos later in this post) underneath having the upper part of the sweater pants sticking out. So Alaskan. Perfect at -30F (-34.4oC) and below. See this guide on looking great in denim for more styling ideas.

What to Wear with the Utility Jacket

I used to have a black utility jacket that I literally wore ’til it fell apart. I was looking for a replacement ever since. No wonder, this black utility tie waist shirt dress – called Tilly – caught my eyes. Even though the description didn’t say jacket, but shirt dress, I chose it in the hope to add a missing basic. I was like, if it fails to work as a jacket, I love this style of shirt dresses.

I’m glad I did. It has the now trendy above-the-bum length. Perfect to hide wide hips or a muscular derriere. It has sort of a water repelling coating. Perfect for slight rain. Love it with a pair of jeans (not shown here, stay tuned for later post).

Black is not your color? Wait, they have it in beige and brown too!

How I Wear Lounge Wear

This black short sleeve boxy loungewear set – Lacy – is a UK size 8/10 (US 4/6 or S/M). It comes also in khaki or beige. They have a similar style with long sleeves too. Why did an Alaskan choose the short-sleeve version?

Style, babe! It’s the first ever. Having no second option (yet), picking a short-sleeve means being able to layer (like I did in the photo below) and change the look.

Is Femme Luxe Clothing True to Size?

Sizing differs among manufacturers. Therefore, make it a habit to look at the size chart every time you order clothing online. Even when it’s the same online store.

Typically, the difference between two sizes is one inch (2.54 cm) for the smaller range and two for the medium and larger range. No matter whether you look at bust, waist or hips.

The white camouflage pants are a little bit smaller than the khaki trousers. However, it’s within the natural variation of the width of seams. The same is true for the grey and brown knit dresses.

The flared jeans run rather on the smaller side. Thus, when you are between sizes you may be better off with the larger one unless you still want your jeans super tight. I love that the front pockets are fake. It means less bulk and keeps the tummy looking flat.

The comparison of the fit-and-sizing of the knit dresses and camo pants suggest that the answer to the question “Is Femme Luxe clothing true to size?” can be answered with yes, when you ordered according to the size chart.

What Is the Quality of Femme Luxe Clothing: Price-Performance Ratio

All these garments fall into the low-cost category of my wardrobe. Read trendy updates intended to give some spice to the basic workhorses.

The pink beauty, for instance,  has a price of $14.99. You can’t even buy the material for this price to do it yourself! The cost-per-wear will be already below one dollar after donning the clothing 15 times! Given the long winter up here in Interior Alaska, the investment will hit this mark before I can actually wear real spring items. In other words, it’s a great deal!

The mid-wash of the jeans, for instance,  permits wearing them year-round. They are definitively for staying comfortable at home, on the weekend and in the yard as well as at the playground. In this case, it’s easy to get the cost-per-wear under a dollar given the $12.99 price tag.

The quality of craftsmanship of the jacket was much better than one would expect for the price ($17.99). I was impressed! This piece will make it in the cents per wear over its tenure in my wardrobe.

The loungewear set’s quality matches the expectations for its $13.99.

Who Would Love these Garments?

I think the knit dress is a great choice when you are looking for a comfortable, but classic sleek work dress for cold days. For looking your best wear it with a full slip underneath. Doing so avoids that it sticks to your underwear when it is cold and dry outside. Add a belt, pearls and tall boots. It’s an instant winter work outfit.

When you are looking for trendy wardrobe updates for going out, I can recommend recommend the midi dresses. They are modest with respect to coverage, but sexy. In midlife, showing less skin is more. I can recommend you the long cardigan as a cheap update for this summer’s wardrobe. Long cardigans are a big trend, and can do double-duty as a light summer coat. It’s also a great piece for the winter-to-spring and summer-to-fall transition. The mocha dress could be a fit for women with slim legs.

When you love the paper-bag trend, the camouflage trousers are a great casual option for the weekend. You can find them in the Femme Luxe camo collection.

When you loved the high waist flare jeans with short zipper of the 1970s, the Genesis will call your name. Style them in a modern way and you are good to go on Casual Friday.

Tip: Never style a returning trend the way it was styled the last time around.

When you fall in one of these groups, I can really recommend the attire as inexpensive, trendy wardrobe updates.

Frugal and budget fashionistas will love the jacket as a cheap piece to join the utility jacket trend. If I had seen this piece in a store, I’d bought it for even $10 more than the price tag.

Wrapping Up the Review of Femme Luxe Dresses Jeans Joggers, Jacket, Cardigan and Loungewear

Femme Luxe has affordable clothing that provide great quality for their price tags. The pieces are easy to style and great trendy wardrobe updates even for the midlife fashionista. The clothing is true to the measures given in the size charts.

Tip: Don’t get into cold weather wardrobe boredom. Update your looks with affordable, good quality pieces.

When you like the outfits, why not pinning them to your Pinterest board?

The quality is the same as in other pieces of their collection that I reviewed before.

Those two pairs of camo pants are really fun! I have learned to size up when skirts have a zipper closing so they are more comfortable. Starting to do better at checking the sizing charts after a couple of mistakes.
