I always have liked silk tops for their soft flow and elegance. Thus, when LilySilk offered me to review one of their silk clothing collection I just had to go for it. I was pretty excited about the many different items their have made of 100% Mulberry silk.

What caught my eye was that they had entire work outfits totally made of silk which are inspiring. Since their entire collection can be easily matched you can come up with an entire silk outfit also on your own like the skirt and shirt look I reviewed from their collection. For today’s review, I picked a black silk shirt because it is a real investment piece, eternal classic, elegant, and so versatile. I like that it can also worn untucked because of the chic cut of the tails. A pure Must-have basic every woman should own.

A Neatly Boxed Silk Shirt Is a Perfect Gift for Female Family Members

When the package arrived and I had taken off the UPS bag, I immediately thought “Wow, this protection box makes this shirt a perfect gift for Christmas as one can easily wrap it.” Every woman likes a silk shirt in a classic neutral color. You can’t go wrong with a wardrobe basic (when you know the right size). When I opened the box I found the shirt neatly folded in protective paper. So high end! Pure luxury! It felt so special! <3

A Classic Basic for All Kind of Dressing Situations

I wanted a basic classic item that works for multiple purposes in life. First, such an item helps to overhaul my closet (and saves money). Who likes buying a top each for four different life dressing situations that don’t go with anything else? Not to mention all the real estate in the closet that these items would take up? This classic shirt from their women collection permits so many outfits with the pieces I already own for various dressing situations in midlife. It works for work meetings in summertime, going out, and the weekend, even dancing. It is also a perfect piece for light traveling when going to a science conference. A must-have for all professional women and a perfect piece for all women who prefer slow fashion brands.

I styled this silk top for going out with funky printed tights, booties, and leather shorts (photo above). On Casual Friday, I wore it with a white blazer and boyfriend jeans, a statement belt and floral pumps for a hint of color. Here it makes for a great, posh business casual look (photo below). Worn untucked or with jeans the blouse is perfect for the weekend, but also looks great when styled with a chic suede skirt and scarf for the office (see photo above in this post).

Fitting and Cut for an Investment Basic

I ordered a size XS (they have all sizes to XXL, and offer customization for an additional $30) and the blouse fits perfect at my shoulders. The breast pockets are above my nipples. I love that the second button is in the right position. Note that I wear a 34 AA (75 AA) bra size. Therefore, when you are full breasted, check the size chart so you get the right fit for your girls. The cut is classic and the craftsmanship shows love for details.

 

Price-Performance Ratio

The price of the blouse is lower than I would expect for a piece of this quality. When I had seen this sample in a store, I would have bought it also at full price ($166.65) as it is an investment wardrobe must-have that I will wear for years. Currently, it is on sale for $69.99 – a high quality basic for a real bargain. I definitively also would recommend this product to my BFF.
