What I Want in Jeans

I have a hard time finding pants that are high enough in the back to cover my musculous bum. You know this jeans gap in the back – this Y-look when you sit down! It’s gross, not sexy at any age. Thus, when I was asked to review a pair of jeans by Kut from the Kloth and saw that they have “high rise” boyfriend jeans – my favorite style – I immediately agreed to try them out. I picked the Catherine in a dark Royal wash. You know me, I love my denim dark.

What Are the Choices of Washes and Styles at Kut from the Kloth?

The boyfriends come in various washes like cozy or authentic wash, different leg styles like straight or slouchy, with zipper or button front closure, various distressed styles, black and even emerald when you are in search for a color pair, just to mention a few of the options.

The Fit: Does Kut from the Kloth Run Big?

When the pair arrived I couldn’t wait to put them on. I wondered whether or not the Y would show with the rise. I sat down with my back turned towards the long mirror in my closet with a hand mirror so I could see my bum. No Y showing! Thumbs up!

Tip: Always sit down and check that the Y doesn’t show.

The fabric is super soft made of 99% cotton with 1% spandex. The inseam rolled up as shown in the photos is 26 1/2″ and 30 1/2″ rolled down. The leg opening is 13 1/2″ (~34 cm). The rise is 8 3/4″, which I would call a medium rise. FYI, my legs are 30 inseam in case you want to get an idea how they would look on yours.

For my taste, the legs have just the right width. I can grab about half an inch of fabric on the legs, which is how boyfriends look best in my opinion. The pair shown here is a US size 2. My hip and lower waist are 35.5 inch (~90 cm) and 27 inch (~69 cm), respectively, i.e. the typical measures for a US size 2. Thus, when you like your bfs tighter than I like mine, you may consider to order a size down.

How to Wear these Jeans in Summer?

They will look great with a white shirt and my red, black, leopard or silver pumps for Casual Friday on a rainy summer day. Then temperatures are in the 50s (10 to 15 ^oC) up here in Interior Alaska.

Of course, this denim beauty can also be styled for the weekend with your favorite orthopedic slides, sneakers, ballerinas or flats. But you know me. I like my heels high. Add a T-shirt and scarf and you are ready for going to the Farmers Market, a picnic or strolling thru the park.

How I Styled the Catherine

While now temperatures are still in the negative double digits, the legs have the perfect length to show off the ankle details of my various booties. For these bfs outfit ideas, I went with layering for a cute winter style weekend look with leopard detail and a posh Casual Friday look in pink, brown and blue.

Price-Performance Ratio

The fabric is of great quality and the piece is well made. Therefore, I expect these jeans to have a tenure in my closet of at least three years. Given the price is $89, the pants will easily go below a dollar per wear. This means they fulfill my criterion for a great deal and great price-performance ratio.

There is free ground shipping on all orders. Alaska and Hawaii shipping is $8.95 for Standard Ground. Not sure what standard ground looks like to HI, but when you live there, you probably know. There is no 2 Day and Next Day Air shipping to AK and HI.

You can return unwashed, unworn, or defective non-sale items within 30 days after purchase for either exchange or refund when the original garment tags are still attached.
