Game nights are favorite entertainments for family and friends. However, when hosting a game night whether you plan on playing CATAN, Monopoly, or solving a puzzle, the fun and tension almost prohibit interrupting the game when the hunger strikes. Consequently, offering delicious, game-friendly food is a challenge when you participate in the game. However, the official CATAN cooking recipe book provides solutions from snacks to drinks, and even for a weekend of board games with easy recipes you can prepare in advance. This review of CATAN The Official Cookbook gives you a glimpse of what kind of recipes to expect so you can judge whether the cookbook will meet the tastes of you, your family, and your friends. Furthermore, the review provides information on where to buy the book.

Disclosure: Ad. The cookbook is a sample of my choice from Pacific & Court. They, the publisher Ulysses Press and their editors did not endorse this review of CATAN The Official Cookbook. I wrote it entirely myself and it represents my own 100% honest opinion.

What Are the Recipes Centered Around?

This cookbook published by Ulysses Press was complied by their editors. Its collection of recipes offers something for everyone. No matter whether you or your guests are vegans, vegetarians, carnivores, or require special dietary like gluten-free, sugar-free, lactose-free or low-fat. Symbols indicate the recipes as such thereby saving your the time to read the ingredients list to identify the type of diet.

Furthermore, the cookbook encompasses recipes for different length of the venue. There are food suggestions for an over-night weekend game marathon, an all-day game event, or an evening or afternoon of fun. Consequently, you can find recipes for a light breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Of course, there are also dessert and drink recipes to “celebrate” the winner and stay hydrated.

CATAN-Inspired Food for All Kind of Board Game Events

Inspired by the best-selling game CATAN, the recipes have a theme spin with respect to their name. One even can imagine they come from one of the places on Catan Island or are related to the game’s adventures. However, there is no need to play CATAN because the collection of recipes serves to create food to enjoy while playing board games.

The cookbook is organized in five parts named

  1. Game (K)night Snacks,
  2. Food for the Road,
  3. Adventurer’s Feasts,
  4. Hard-Won Desserts, and
  5. Cheers for the Victories.

In simple words, you find appetizers, finger food, and bite-size snacks in the first part. These foods work for all lengths of play time and even watching the super bowl as snacks in-between. The second part encompasses light breakfasts and luncheons. Together with a dinner from the third part and snacks from the first part, you can offer food for a game marathon weekend. The icing on the cake of your food game are desserts and (non-)alcoholic beverages covered in part four and five, respectively.

Well, that’s all you need food-wise to host your game guests.

Selected Example Dishes from the Cookbook

These food photos evidence the broadness of the collection in these five parts. Each recipe starts with a short paragraph explaining how the dish fits into the CATAN theme. It is my understanding that it to read by the kids. Maybe it gets kids excited to help in the preparation.

Furthermore, it has an ingrediencies list and a photo.

My Take-Aways from the Review of CATAN The Official Cookbook

An important take-away is that this cookbook’s recipe collection helps to prepare hosting all kind of board game playing events and duration. Due to its color-code you can pick the right recipes for special food preferences or dietary needs quickly. This identification is a great time-saver to avoid stress when entertaining guests.

The cooking skills required are low to medium. The time needed to actually make the dish is short for most of them. The dishes can be prepared in advance. Most dishes that require to be served hot can be warmed up in the microwave or oven. However, when your party is large, you may want to have several microwaves to serve all players at a time.

This cookbook is great for everyone who loves food and games. Get your copy now.
