One color got promoted from accessory to full on clothing
I had orange accessories as long as I can think back. And yes, I also had some clothing that had spots or even a sort of color blocking stripe in this strong, bold hue. I don’t know exactly why, but I never had bought a piece that was a full on solid orange. The reason may be that I was classified as a winter back in the 1980s. This palette doesn’t include any warm shades. However, actually I am a neutral or deep autumn-winter according to the new classification.
When I spotted this skirt new with tags on eBay, I knew immediately that I wanted to have it. Despite I new it would be a high score on eBay, it took me about six weeks (!) until my “buy finger” finally hit Check Out. During these six weeks, the clothing piece again and again popped up in my mind like from somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Like Russell in Independence Day when he shouts out at the Aliens “I’m back.”
In other words, cantaloupe got a promotion to be eligible as an attire. 😉
How do you know whether a garment will work for you?
A while ago, I wrote a post about how to know when to splurge or bargain. Another important aspect is toNever buy a piece of clothing when you don't have already three outfits from your closet with it in mind. #frugalshopper Click To Tweet
Of course, I had already three pieces in my wardrobe in mind that I thought would work with this citrus fruit color. However, when I bought this skirt I didn’t expect to wear it that often. It had been my go-to this winter. See how I wore these leopard boots and the skirt in fall, how I wore the skirt with the patterned tight trend, and how to make an entrance with an orange skirt, just to give you some examples.
May be it’s its friendly color. It brightens up even the grayest winter day no matter how short the Sun is up. 😉
Orange skirt and jacket styled as a fake suit
You know I’m a big fan of fake suits. They instantly make a Business Casual look. In the case of this outfit, both the skirt and jacket have the same hue, but a distinct different shade works too. You can find a full guide on how to wear a suit and not look old at the link.

What colors work with orange?
Many women avoid wearing tangerine because they think it is hard to style. Yes, pairing it with green or black or even both easily gets you into Halloween. Not a promotional bell ringer, not even as a office appropriate Halloween look.
Well, brown-orange-leo is a great combo to try as this LOTD illustrates. What about pairing it with navy, a bright blue, khaki, burgundy or olive. Think of olive as the new black. Speaking of blue – a real classic neutral – denim is also great to try. Gray tweed is also a great match. When you are daring try a carrot skirt stunning look with a pink jacket.
