July lookbook (What to wear in Alaska)

Weather in Interior Alaska in July

July is one month into the fire season. Thus, we had some (theoretically nice) days, but gray skies due to air pollution from wildfires. Typically towards the end of July, there are more rainy days. Also wind speed is still high, but on average less than in June (see the June Lookbook).

This typical pattern also was the case this July. Dressing wise it meant dressing for thermal comfort on those days with temperatures 77F (25C) and higher to permit sweat to wicker and cool the body. On rainy days, temperatures were in the lower 60s (about 15.6C) and humidity was high.  Thus, flip flops, short sleeves or tanks plus shorts or Bermudas did the trick for most locals.

However, tourists wore long sleeve flanel shirts or sweaters (that why they are called long sleeves by the locals), sneakers, socks, rain jackets and baseball or bucket hats.

What I wore in July in Fairbanks

Those of you who follow my blog already for a while, know that for me

However, this doesn’t mean that I stay inside in summer. While I am not into hiking, canoeing, fishing, boating, I enjoy sitting on the deck in our yard or at the river and dressing up for it.  Think along the lines of outfits for a garden party, BBQ, dinner party or picnic. And, of course, summer business casual work outfits were in order. I also had to pack for a summer business trip.

Summer leisure time looks

Weekend looks were in order for Independence Day, of course in patriotic red-white and blue, despite there is no firework on the 4th in Fairbanks. Of course, there was again the Summer Arts Festival, and the Golden Days Parade. The latter required Gold Rush Clothes that I shopped from my closet. Here are weekend looks I wore this month.

  1. All great outfits! It’s hard to pick a favorite. You have an amazing collection of shoes and accesories to complete every outfit!

  2. Since I’ve never been there, the weather in Alaska fascinates me and I didn’t realize there was a wildfire season there either. I have probably said it before, but I absolutely love that sequin skirt…I drool every time I see you wear it!
