Maximizing the wear of wardrobe pieces

When I add a new item to my closet I always try to maximize the combination possibilities. To achieve this goal, a first prerequisite is that an item has either one of the wardrobe’s neutral or secondary colors. It also must match the style or at least work with the style of the wardrobe as a twist. When I am still in the store, I always try to come up with at least three outfits that I could create with the item. Furthermore, I try to buy pieces that I can wear at least in three seasons.

Always try to shop for clothes that you can wear in more than one season when you are on a budget! #budgetfashionists #frugalshopper Click To Tweet

A floral silk skirt can work from spring to fall

I added this floral skirt to my wardrobe in spring. I styled it as a spring, summer and now as fall outfit. Doing so works by just picking up the respective season’s “natural” colors, i.e. the colors that are typically associated with a season. In spring, I added pink to to create a season appropriate look, while in summer I added red and white and the ultimate summer look of a striped marine inspired top. In fall, I picked up the darker and the warm colors by adding a sunflower yellow bag, and a faux twinset made up by a black cardigan and burgundy sweater.

Look at your clothes and ask yourself how you can wear them in more than one season. #budgetfashion #agelessstyle Click To Tweet

Shoes can change the vibe of an outfit

Besides the colors, the shoes are also a great mean to style an item for different seasons. Sandals with chunky heels and/or wood soles work great as fall sandals. Open-toe booties in tan or black also can create a fall vibe when worn with tights. Dress shoes with chunky or sturdy heels also have a fall vibe. Dark pumps in black, brown, or burgundy add a fall vibe. Strappy sandals or slides with bare feet scream summer (and vacation), while pumps in a bright or pastel color are perfect for spring and the office in spring as well as summer, when the office dress-code requires closed toe pumps.
