Another Great Down Coat of Happy Goat Lucky’s Collection

As I stated already in my review of the Happy Goat Lucky Grace down coat, I used not to be a fan of down coats. However, curiosity made me browse their page and what I saw there all looked stylish and sleek. Perfect for me! As you know fitted and stylish is important to me. Thus, I gave them a try. I chose three coats and they send me two. I have to return one of them early next month.  Which one will be a tough decision because I love them both very much.

The thin appearance was a surprise

When the package arrived it was so small that I believed it’s just one coat in there. How wrong was I! Both were in there! Despite they have great insulation they do not make you look fat. The secret? 650 fill power!

The Valentina is available in classic black and midnight blue. I picked midnight blue because it is less expected than black. This beauty comes from size XS to XL. I am wearing a size XS and it’s a perfect fit.

What I Love about the Valentina

Besides its great craftmanship, insulation, lightweight, and fitted cut as well as stylish look I love the versatility of the piece. Like the Grace the Valentina has a detachable hoodie. In addition, it also has a detachable fur collar (Note you can also order it without fur). These changing options mean you can wear the Valentina four different ways:

1. Without hood and collar like in this post’s styling inspiration,
2. with hood, but no collar,
3. without hood, but with collar, and
4. with hoodie and collar.

Four different style for the price of one! So far I wore the styling options 1 and 4. But I will do the other options soon. Thus stay tuned to see them all.

I also love the smart solution of avoiding cold bridges. That’s what we Alaskans call the areas of clothing where cold air can enter. A famous cold bridge are the bottoms of the sleeves. Here, however, the Valentina has a hidden knit band that closes tight on the arm. Thus, no cold air can enter thru the sleeve. The air inside your sleeves is separated from that outside even when you lift your arms or do what ever activity.

I also love that you can wear a light winter office look underneath (see next two photos).

Price-performance Ratio

This puffer is currently on sale for $239 at Happy Goat Lucky. It’s a bargain for a piece of this high quality. Even at its original price of $415 this beauty would be still less expensive than many not so stylish puffers of less quality. But who would wait until the price goes up when one can save $176?

Who Would Love to Wear It?

The Valentine is rated to be suitable for 10F-35F (-12.2-1.7C). Thus, it’s great for the “warm” winter days in Interior Alaska. In other words, on those days during which the Interior, Yukon and Northwest Territories land area are not producing Arctic cold air, but are influenced by the Aleutian Low or air coming from the North Pole. Under both these conditions we get Chinook (Föhn for my European readers) for the Interior. Thanks to the Brooks Range in the south and the Alaska Range in the North.

This garment is perfect for all stylish women who live in a climate zone with winter temperatures below the freezing point, but rarely in the double negative digits on the Fahrenheit scale. Think East Coast, northern Mid-West, Montana, Idaho, just to mention a few. More on which down coats are best for your climate region.
