Take inspirations for your outfit
There are many things that can inspire an outfit. Blogs, magazines, outfits in a store window, TV, Pinterest, Instagram, … you name it. Many easy to copy OOTD base on neutral colors like black with white and gray, or navy with tan and beige, navy with gray and light blue or white. These easy to copy looks typically base on wardrobe classics that every woman has in her closet, i.e. the investment pieces. However, in summer, we want to go for color, not to compete with the colors of summer, but because the dress codes are taken a bit looser color wise because of the summer heat.
How to come up with great color combinations
The easy way is to buy a printed dress, add some flesh colored shoes and a neutral bag and you are done. You look posh with this easy style recipe when the dress is a great fit and cut. Things get more complicated with separates. You have to do the color combination or coordination yourself.
There are several ways to come up with great color combinations. Going for a monochromatic look with one color in its different shades or brightness is a great option. For instance, various pinks from blush to fuchsia or red from orange to pink.
Another nice one is to use complimentary colors like orange with blue or green with red, purple with yellow. Analog colors on the color wheel, i.e. adjacent ones are another fool proof possibility.
A less “scientific” way to come up with great color combinations is to look at paintings that your love. I like the color combinations of Munch’s famous painting the scream or van Gogh’s night cafe, just to give some examples.
How I designed this look
For this outfit, I started with the color combination. I was putting my cleaned clothes back into my closet. While putting the blouse onto a hanger I saw that the blush of the skirt looked great with the purple. Thus, I had two starting pieces. Applying the three pieces rule, I looked for a scarf. The scarf has purple and blush swirls as well as green, tan and pink ones. Thus, the slides were a great option as they had pink and tan colors. The bag repeats the tan with the bamboo pieces and the greens. Adding the geode suede belt with it different pink colors and the sunglasses were the finishing touches. I styled the scarf as a necklace to keep the outfit summery. I adopted the wearing the scarf ends on the back from my Indian girl friends who do so when they wear their panjari.

Top of the World OOTDs
The Top of the World Style Winner is picked by a random generator from the party two weeks ago. The reasons are as follow: Each party runs a week minus 5 minutes. At the time of scheduling a new party, the old party is still in full swing and blogger still can join. To give all guests the same chance, the old party has to have closed before drawing the winner. In plain English, the Top of the World Style Winner visited the linkup party two weeks ago.
The winner of this week’s feature is Kit, the blogger at Meadow Tree who submitted her winning post at the 120th linkup party.
The post by Gail Hanlon at Is This Mutton became Top of the World OOTD Readers’ Fav as you clicked her post the most. This gingham skirt with ruffle is really outstanding and special. The pink cardigan worn as a top make this look even more unique. The look is perfect for work and having drinks in tea garden after work with the colleagues or some friends.
Ana, the blogger at Mrs. American Made, caught my eyes with her great great vacation outfit. I really love this look with these outstanding shorts. Who said you can’t wear shorts over 50? This outfit became my favorite of last week’s party.
