When your office has a Casual Friday culture, you may often wear a button-down shirt with jeans combo. Once your summer tan vanishes the look that was wow-worthy in summer fails. This post provides stylist’s tricks to boost up the look with a neckerchief and other alternatives to add a pop of color.

When to Add a Pop of Color

I like the look of a button-down chambray shirt with boyfriend jeans for Casual Friday. Such an outfit can quickly look blah when one would add neutral color shoes. One may get away with it still in summer when the skin has a sun glow and one adds colorful earrings. However, in fall, this shirt-jeans combination would make you look washed out. My standard styling trick is to add a colorful scarf when a pop of color is needed.

Swap the Scarf for a Neckerchief

I am so happy that neckerchiefs are a thing again. : ) They are much easier to wear than a scarf as they are much shorter. Moreover, they are less expensive than a large square scarf and also fulfill the purpose of adding a pop of color to an otherwise desaturated look. Bright Bead Necklaces Can Add Color

An alternative to adding a scarf or neckerchief for a pop of color are several necklaces with bright colored beads. Be aware that they may be a little bit too noisy when they bang each other whenever you look for some paperwork at work. While this styling trick may not be a great option for Casual Friday, the colorful necklaces are great for a pop of color to a neutral color weekend look.

Pink Motorcycle Jacket for Outside

I also like to style outerwear (see the post at the link for a guide). In today’s outfit, I picked up the green and pink color of the gladiators with the bag and motorcycle jacket. It’s just the right amount of color to uplift the mood on a gray fall day. 😉
