Neckerchiefs and scarves for style are a big thing in the cold season. In this post, I share one of my secrets how to tie a scarf beyond the usual knot. Read how to braid a scarf into a necklace, how to style it, and how to wear a necklace with a scarf that is tied in this way.
What You Need to Braid a Scarf into a Necklace
You need a thin oblong scarf and a brooch or safety pins.
Tutorial How to Braid a Scarf – Step-by-Step
I saw this style for the first time when I worked in Leipzig, Germany. My colleague Karin had tied her oblong scarf this way and she taught me how she did it. Thanks again, Karin.
Lay an oblong long scarf down to a U-shape. Then place one of the ends rectangular over the other end. The ends should be the same length. Note that it is important to do so at such a distance that the created loop is wide enough to put your head thru later once the braid is done.
Now pull the loop and the two ends down to have three wisps of the scarf for a braid.
Braid the scarf until the two ends are used up. Make a small knot. Turn the braided scarf around and secure the knot and braid with a brooch. The brooch serves to secure the two open ends of the braiding. Instead of a brooch you can use safety pins. Put them on the back so they are hidden.
How to Style a Braided Scarf
You can wear the scarf necklace like you wear any pendant necklace. Pull the scarf over your head so the brooch is showing. That’s it.
Can You Wear a Necklace with a Braided Scarf?
Yes, this way of styling your scarf is the easiest way how to wear a necklace with a scarf. All it takes is to find a style that is shorter than your scarf necklace. A beaded necklace is nice because it repeats the form of the scarf. However, you can use the scarf necklace as a frame to showcase a statement or pendant necklace.
