Every woman needs formal wear in her wardrobe
When I was a kid my favorite part of the biennual clothes-shopping trips was the special occasion dresses aisle. Typically, it was just one rack about 10 m long with gorgeous robes mostly in black with lots of sequins, crystals and beads embellishment. My parents always said that I were obsessed of Abendkleider, which is the German word for evening gowns.
Well, I am still in love with these garnments. I give ballroom dancing the fault. 😉 However, there are so many more special events to sport these beauties than just balls. Christmas, opera, horse race and formal wedding come to mind.
In Germany, however, there are even more occassions where an “Abendkleid” is a Must-have. For instance, I wore one at my graduation from High School. Another example: When you or your hubby was the best scorer at the annual rifle competition. My brother-in-law, for instance, won the title Schützenkönig (champion marksman) three times, and even became regional Schützenkaiser (top scorer) once. Each time, my sister-in-law wore a new festive garnment for the reception. At these festivities, color is a Must.
Pink is It in evening gowns
When you watched the Oscars you may have gotten the impression that pink is the Pantome Color of the Year as so many celebrities were donning this color on the Red Carpet.
Color is a big do
Speaking of color, sporting color is a huge trend. JJsHouse has 34 color choices which include the classics like black and gemstone colors, statement colors like lime green and, of course, those of the Pantome color palette of the year. They come in EU sizes 32 to 58. This means every woman with every body can find her perfect dress. When in doubt, wear color. #JJsHouse.de Click To Tweet
Put it on Serena Williams‘ stunning Oscar appearance in a sleek dress with ruffles all down the front. How can one better hide a belly? My favorite variation of this trend is this LBD with high Angelina Jolie inspired slit and Jackie Kennedy like cut armwholes.
When you love your legs and they are you best feature, show them off with a high-low hem. Everything is possible from sexy black lace like an Argentine Tanguera to a more feminine sweet look in satin and beaded top like the example below.
Pleats in formal wear? Yes, please!
Accordion pleats are a perennial classic. They pop up every now and then and are so flattering on many of us. Well, the skirt is cut in A-line. That’s why. This pleated garnment looks very sophisticated in gray. Perfect for a red head or brunette.
Statement sleeves like in Mc Beth
This trend reminds me of the robes the actresses wore in Shakespear’s Mc Beth in 1981 when I visited the play at the Old Vic in London. Long, floor length sleeves will give you an entrance and are perfect for the arm-shy women among us.

Remember her dress? In this piece, you will have a hard time not to feel like a Princess.
You can’t go wrong with lace
It hasn’t to be full on. Just the sleeves or as embellishment also do the trick. Recall that champagne lace looks sophisticated, black has a sexy vibe, white is elegant, red is feminine – think Julia Roberts as Vivian Ward at the opera in Pretty Woman.
Velvet is still a Do in special wear
“She wore Blue Velvet.” Remember that song and the movie? I love the deep saturated color of velvet fabrics, especially when it comes in gemstone hues. If you have the cleavage you will love this pick.
Capes and bolero jackets for a sophisticated look
Capes and bolero jackets are perfect cover-ups when it gets chilly after sunset or due to AC or in church. Why not directly buying a perfect match?
Jumpers are hot in formal attire
Are you a trendsetter? Or a tomboy? Then the jumper trend is made for you.
Sequins created pattern
Growing up in the 70s, sequins fascinated me. Yeah, they are back! Love this sophisticated sheath-style gown with long sleeves.
Lust for getting a beautiful garnment for the next wedding or whatever?
