Alaska in August Asks for Rain Gear

August is the rain season in Interior Alaska. The Chena and Tanana Rivers are pretty swollen from the rain in their upstream catchments. Temperatures drop and by mid August we have already the first real dark nights after about 84 days of only white nights and days. The first fog creates spooky morning sceneries and we had the first frost in the hills.

The first leaves already turned their colors by the mid of the months. At the beginning of August, the birds started gathering at Creamer’s Field – a wildlife refugee in the Fairbanks metropolitan area – and in the fields of the University Experimental Farm in College. Sandhill cranes, Canadian geese, ducks, seagulls, robins, and co. are already gone to their southern winter quarters.

In this post, I show what to wear in August in Fairbanks. To avoid that this post gets super long, I will not add the looks I already posted. Start at the following link and move forward in time to catch those looks in case you missed them.

What to Wear in Alaska in August at Work

At the university in the sciences, the dress code is pretty casual. However, I prefer to dress more formal than actually expected.

Halogen quilted leather jacket, Hermes collier de chien bangle, gemstone cuff, Bellorita designer fish satchel, Moon landing and Mars mission T-shirt, statement citrine and cat-eye necklace, Michael Kors patent leather cork plateau sandals, and button-down skirt c/o Fashom

On a rainy, windy day, my chinos and favorite blazer served as a Casual Friday outfit. I love this steel blue color and linen fabric of the blazer. The sandals are a recent score in a thrift store.

Oliveo chinos, DIY bag, statement belt, Anne Klein oblong scarf, Vittoria Vernai blazer, Ann Taylor Loft silk short sleeve V-neck knit top, Franco Sarto sandals.

The next photo show a work dinner outfit. The scuba cropped jacket makes the pretty summer dress a little bit more casual. Moreover, it covers my arms that I prefer to “hide” when at work.

The next look shows a faux twinset with linen pants. This business casual work outfit could be an example of wearing summer items in fall, i.e. a transitional outfit. August is the rain season and often humid with temperatures in the 50s (10 to 15oC).

August Weekend and Leisure Looks

I had the first two weeks off. As a result, this post features a couple more leisure looks than those of other months. I wore the blouse, jeans and Keds look for running errands at the mall. At the mall, they still had their solstice advertisement. It’ll probably not change until Halloween.

Going Out in Fairbanks

In the look below, I am wearing my tiered skirt again that I made from hubby’s old shirts. I wore the look for a social dance. The leather jacket is my coverup in case that it’s raining after the dance.

Graham and James motorcycle leather jacket, Michael Kors heels, Sak bag, statement necklace and cuff, Hermes collier de chien bangle, statement belt, Hermes enamel bangles, DIY tiered skirt and Covered Perfectly top.

I wore the look below for romantic date night.

Don’t let the right outfit be a random thing. Look up what to wear when in How to Dress for Success in MidlifeBuy my book now.

Happy almost Labour Day, love seeing your full range of August posts. And yes internet was spotty in Iqaluit and it was a tad chillier than I like for summer lol

I love the blue blazer with the white pants…the blazer is beautiful! Some of our leaves have started to change a bit. The temperatures have been cooler although they usually soar again through mid-September.
