Weather in Interior Alaska in April

In central Alaska, spring is short, if there is spring at all. It is unbelievable, but often there is still a foot of snow in our backyards! Nevertheless, the air has been dry and warm so one feels very comfortable outside here in the Interior. Therefore, in April, it’s best to mix of summer and winter clothes. Layering is key.  More on stylish layering.

On dry, “warmer” days, a jersey spring dress with panty hose works well at work in the conservative field. For the commute a leather coat is fine.

What I Wore at Work in the Film Studio

At work, I am producing an online physical hydrometeorology class. On film days, I have to consider which kind of video we have planned. When a PowerPoint slide show is to be added blue and green are no-nos because the green background is later replaced by the slides. When we use the Learning Board, black is a no-no as the background is black. It would look like my hands and head float alone over the screen. Sounds spooky and like to pick an office appropriate look for Halloween.

In case you don’t know what a learning board is, I didn’t before using it. It’s a glass on which I write like on a whiteboard in class. The software turns my writing around so the students can read it.

Well, also any busy pattern on the top like hounds tooth, pinpoints, glen check are No-Nos as well. Below are the movie looks. More on what to wear or not to wear when livestreaming.

April Lookbook What to Wear at the Office

April Street Chic

The following looks with prints would be too busy for the studio. However, they were fun to wear on other work days. I found the global print inspired T-shirt dress for $10 two or three years ago. Back then the color combination caught my eye. I was like well you easily get 10 wears out of this dress this summer and when you don’t like the “wild print” anymore next year, you just wear it as a PJ. Well, the dress made it thru several closet overhauls. This time I added polka dots picking up on the mixed print trend. I went with a pale pink lipstick to not go overboard. A red lipstick would be too much.

To wear my embroidered summer dress in spring, I added an underskirt and a sleeve camisole to obtain the right insulation to feel comfortable.

In April, spring is still in stealth mode here in Alaska. However, the heavy coats can make their way to the dry cleaner. The look below features a street chic leather pants with a layering top and a motorcycle jacket look.

Outerwear

In April, temperatures were still below the freezing point in the mornings. Thus, outerwear was a must. Fortunately, a light winter coat or cape provided enough insulation, and I could put the heavy shearling and down coats back into storage. My shoulders are so much happier with the lower load on them than in the down-coats I wore in deep January. You just don’t go outside in a bikini at 40 below unless you do it for a blog post.

More on wearing white after Labor Day and before Memorial day. When you visit early  or later in April, you might also consider the March Lookbook or the May lookbook, respectively.

You look so wonderful and classy in those carefully chosen outfits. In particular that Spence embroidered dress is really eye catching, along with red cape coat and the black leather trench coat.
