Prolog on Bridging the Gap

Today is an exciting day with the launch of an unprecedented campaign, “Bridging the Gap,” where 100 Millennial and 100 Midlife Influencers are coming together to blur the boundaries as we believe we are stronger together. We are putting an end to the labels and divisions that no longer serve us as age is simply a number, while it’s your attitude  and way of looking at life that truly matters. We are women supporting women, along with a few brave men joining in the celebration. We are coming together to send a powerful message that we choose to be seen for who we are rather than be defined by our ages. We believe in a world without separation. We believe that we are far stronger together. Please join us in this revolutionary campaign as it’s the hearts and souls of the women that truly matter in the end.

You’ve got mail from Granola and Grace

Early this year, I got an email from a young fashion and lifestyle blogger whom I had followed for a while, Chrissy Rowden of Granola and Grace. I have adored her fresh and confident take on style and her will to take a style risk. She can style even a plaid shirt with jeans and sneakers in a feminine fun way (see photo above), and does Alaska street style to perfection (see photo below).

…we shall meet

She had contacted me as she had planned to visit her sister who had moved to Fairbanks a couple of months ago. She wanted to know what to bring to Fairbanks. “Trader Joe, if she likes that” was one of my immediate reactions. After a couple of DM on instagram and emails, we planned to meet during her visit.

… just snow in

Since she stayed on base and depended on her sister’s plans and “taxi service”, we didn’t make a date and time. We decided she would just stop by at work, and I would just work later that day.

Then she and her sis showed up in my office. It was a beautiful clear day with a great view from my office on the Alaska Range with some mirages showing over the mountains. I wanted invite them for coffee, but they had already a College Coffee House late, and wanted to stay in my office to enjoy the great view. Since we were already giggling, I closed the door so we would  annoy my office neighbors. We laughed a lot chatting about Alaska, living in Alaska, what you can and can’t do, fashion and food. Time flew by in no time, and they nearly missed to leave in time for their next item on the Fairbanks to-do list.

Granola & Grace…Green Smoothies & Lace

This slogan on her blog tells you a lot about her. Chrissy is embracing life to the fullest. She loves to have fun and make other people laugh. If needed, she even applies being goofy. She would make a great children entertainer.

Granola and Grace …lifestyle, fashion, and a dash of crunchy

What will you find on her blog? Of course, great outfit posts that feature her unique and inspiring sense of style. A lot on lifestyle. In her little family of six. She has four boys, two of them are twins. She home-schools the twin boys. Of course, home schooling tips. She’s a foodie, meaning you will find great food ideas on her blog. And a lot of funny things. My favorite: The cupcakes. What would you do when you win a year’s worth of a daily cupcake?

Here another fun fact about Chrissy. She has lived in Honduras for two years as a missionary with her husband. <3

Every Midlife Woman has a Millennia inside, every Millennia a future Midlife Woman

We have so much in common, not only our favorite colors red and black. We both like homemade bread and make it. We love fresh food grown without pesticides. We love nature and turning fashion into style. Chrissy is very down to Earth, but this fact doesn’t mean she dresses like that. On the contrary, she loves to have fun with fashion.

Every young woman carries a future midlife woman inside of her.

Chrissy’s dream vacation – except coming back to Alaska next summer with her entire little family – is to travel thru Europe one day, of course, with her hubby. <3 That trip to Europe is what midlifers do, right? You can’t do that with four kids, unless your brother-in-law gets an assignment to Germany. One day in a blue Moon, she wants to study acting, singing, guitar, and dance. These studies would definitively round up her natural talent of entertaining people, and could get her into cabaret.

Common dreams

Yes, and like every fashionista on a budget, i.e. like everyone woman, she dreams to wear a new high price tag item and call it her own. ell this attitude well fits with her love of nature, a healthy environment, and being resourceful. Thrifting and recycling of clothes are great for the environment. Every woman at midlife carries a “Millennial” inside of her and can tell that using hand-me-downs will do. Having a used original is better than a knock-off.

I feel so blessed and graceful having met Chrissy 3D and in color. You can e-meet her at , like her on facebook, follow her on Instagram. Cupcake anyone? 😉
