Musing on my favorite color

Regular readers of my blog know that my favorite color as a toddler (and still today) is black.

My love for black would immediately change when they would come up with a darker color than black. – Unknown

is one of my favorite related funny fashion quotes with respect to black. It’s so great that one of fall’s trends is velvet as black velvet is so dark.

My love for pink started early

However, while black was a no-no for my mom, I wore a lot of pink, which came up next to black in the list of preferred colors. No, not baby pink or a girly pink, but hot pink or as it sometimes is called fuchsia.

Me as a 3 year old toddler in a pink cardigan that my mom had knitted for me

My mom had knitted me a pink cardigan with tussles. I really love that jacket. I always wore it with a custom jewelry Bambi brooch with hematite crystals. Hint, hint, here the black comes into the game again. I have no clue where the brooch went. It’s so odd that many things you loved in your childhood just vanish and you don’t know, when and how, but you know you didn’t throw them out.

Still traces of pink in my Boho phase

Do you remember the so-called “gold” hand-painted Indian dresses at the begin of the 80s? I loved them, but from today’s perspective, this style was not my best choice. 😉 Well turning fashion into style is a learning process. The good thing is

you can start learning to have style at any age.

This dress was a gift from my Dad. He had given me money to buy a blouse when I went on my High School trip to London. However, I picked the dress instead of a blouse in this style as a dress is an instant outfit and I would not have had anything to match in my closet. I still have the dress for memory reasons.

Pink was hot in the 80s

In the 80s, pink with black was a great thing, but I preferred it with gray.

Today the It trend for fall is pink with yellow.

Me as a PhD graduate student at a party wearing a cable knit sweater with gray skinny jeans, DIY statement necklace, and zebra pumps.

See the photo above. I always had a knack for “extreme” shoes. I loved these pony hair zebra pumps. Again, I don’t know at which move in college, I lost them. 😦 I wish I could find such a pair again. They were such a statement and stunning.

How I wear my pink today

Fall trend pink and yellow

Yellow is not on my list of favorite colors despite I have a yellow summer bag. Thus, I will use that bag in fall with pink accessories in the outerwear or similar combinations with a hint of yellow and a lot of pink like in the floral skirt or the pink tweed skirt and floral top outfit inspirations above.

Fall’s pink and yellow trend works great for women over 40 when you feature the color that is the most flattering and put the other in the supporting role.

How will you embrace fall’s pink and yellow trend? Full on or just in hints? Will you feature the color of the two that is the most flattering and putting the other in the supporting role? Let me know. I am curious.

Top of the World Style linkup-party

Welcome to the 72nd Top of the World Style fashion linkup party. Thanks to all you stylish ladies who linked up last week. Your lovely outfits were so exciting and inspiring.

The Top of the World OOTD Readers’ Fav was Princess, as you clicked her post the most. She is the blogger at I am Priiincesss. Her little white dress is perfect for a night out when on vacation. She could even wear it as a wedding dress. The off-shoulder Carmen look and lace make the dress so festive. The pink heels look awesome and modern with this dress.

I loved Erin’s white dress with a pop of color summer look. Her bag is a must-have for fall and goes well with the summer dress. It’s sort of wear it now, wear it later. She became Top of the World OOTD My Fav. She is the blogger at Happily Howards.
