Telling someone that I am running a fashion and style blog has given me looks and comments ever since I started High Latitude Style in 2013. Some reactions were along the line of my age both with respect to fashion as well as the tech-part of blogging, others along the line of fashion and sciences not being compatible, or living in Alaska as a fashionista is not a match. I spare you the ickiest. 😉
I love being a fashion blogger at this time in my life. You may have heard the fashion quote
Fashion is what you buy, style is what you do with it
Trends come and go, something is in fashion or old-fashioned. I am also old enough to have seen trends a second time around. Flare jeans or leggings anyone?
I learned that it is not enough to keep up with the trends by buying new fashion to look up-to-date as a professional women. While in your twenties, this concept works, it fails as a woman adds experience in life and profession. Think of it as that a mature person looks like Judy in disguise when this person’s outfit does not reflect who the person is.
I love to share how to take fashion to style. I want inspire women over 40 to express who they have become. There is nothing more aging – visually and psychologically – than wearing what others think we should wear or wearing what fast fashion dictates. The former is a recipe for becoming invisible, the latter for becoming a fashion victim.
So far about the “look” regarding fashion, science and being of a certain age. The comments on blogging at a certain age just reveal that those people probably have never been online.
Between the Lines series
Today I want to introduce you to the Between the Lines series on bloggers age 50 and up that Katie coordinates. Katie is the blogger at Katherine’s Corner. This series features early generation X, “babyboomers” and older who run blogs. In America, the term babyboomer refers to the generation born between 1946 and 1964. Of course these years are not hard lines, rather sort of fuzzy. According to the DOB my sister and her husband are babyboomers. However, mind-wise they are generation X like my brother and his wife.
The series shows a broad spectrum over over 50 bloggers covering everything from DIY, over health, fashion, fitness, lifestyle, travel, gardening, beauty, and adventures. People who love life and live it to the fullest trying to inspire others to do the same. And blogging is just one of their interests as well. Over 50, who cares?
When you like the idea of this series share it on twitter by tweeting “I just read about an awesome blog series about bloggers over 50.” Thanks. I appreciate your support! 🙂
