Needham Lane styling tips
Printed voile shift dress c/o Needham Lane styled with own cardigan Salvatore Ferragamo pumps, Medor watch and blue-green necklace

It is a Fairbanks tradition to wear the new spring dress with strappy sandals or cute flats or pumps to the Easter Brunch or dinner, no matter how cold it is outside. Snow depth doesn’t play a role either as the women leave the car at the door. This year, I will wear this beautiful dress, which is a sample from Needham Lane.

Needham Lane’s collections

Needham Lane specializes in apparel, sleepwear, and accessories. Their apparel encompasses dresses, skirts, shirts, and tunics. Their accessories, among other things, include colorful printed totes and beach totes. I feel so honored that Needham Lane sponsors a giveaway of one of their Pineapple Beach Totes here on High Latitude Style.

They also have beautiful solid color dresses and skirts, but their awesome prints are what make their dresses, skirts, shirts and tunics really standout from the crowd. The prints are stunning! The colors look fresh and timeless. Some of the prints are abstract like the one of the Navy Lucy dress shown in this post, but there are also prints with a nice blend of west-meets-east to them.

Assessment of the Needham Lane dress

I love the classic shift-dress cut of this Navy Lucy Piper dress and the abstract regular print. The print reminds me of the ls we had to draw in elementary school except that this abstract pattern is absolutely regular in contrast to the ls I drew back then ;).

The size of the print is large enough to not look busy, and small enough to be office appropriate when the dress is worn with a cardigan like in the photo or with a white denim jacket. This feature applies to all of Needham Lane’s prints. If you like the pattern of my dress, but prefer skirts, they have a straight skirt in this print as well.

The dress is made from lightweight 100% cotton voile and has a white cotton lining which is important to avoid see-thru. It has a hidden back zipper. The seams are well made and accurate. I am wearing this dress in a US size 4 and it flows nicely over my body, i.e. it is true to size and has just the right ease needed for a summer dress. It also moves nicely with a breeze of wind as you can see in the first photo of this post. Someone just opened the door when the picture was taken.

The dress can be machine washed cold, and hang dry. This means it is also great for your summer vacation <3. It may need some ironing if you don’t hang it straight.

Styling options

Wear the Needham Lane dress with flat tan sandals, a straw tote and wooden necklace for shopping at the farmers’ market in the heat of summer. Wear it with a straw hat, red ballet flats and a blue knit jacket for a summer-in-Provence vibe. Make it a white or red jacket and you have a great outfit for Independence Day. A great weekend look would be to wear the dress over white skinnies and pull it up with a belt as a tunic. The thin fabric also permits to wear the dress under a wrap skirt as a top.

Price-performance ratio

Since this dress can be styled up for work and styled down for play (weekend, vacation), one can get a lot of wear out of it. Let’s assume you start wearing it on Easter for brunch and would only wear it every second week throughout the warm season until Labor Day. This means you would wear it 12 times this warm season. The dress costs $99. Under the above assumption the cost-per-wear would be $8.25, i.e. less than a margarita at the pool bar. However, since it folds very flat and can also serve as cover-up on the beach, wearing the dress more often is likely. Furthermore, the classic cut and interesting prints make the Needham Lane dresses timeless. Thus, you probably will keep it for at least another summer. Under these considerations, I would have a hard time to resist buying the dress. 😉
