In the last Century, it was a fashion rule to have no more than one pattern or print in an outfit. Stripes were for blouses or shirt- and house dresses, but not women sweaters or tops. Furthermore, the cat print was for night time only. It was preceived as overly sexy. In the 21^st Century, leopard became an everyday daytime trend and neutral. The designers damped the old fashion rule. This post covers mixing stripes with leopard, i.e. wearing stripes the new way.

Mixing Stripes with Leopard: Pick a Grounding and a Common Color

Yesterday, in my Ageless Style series, I wrote about how to mix prints and patterns, and that I rarely wear just one print or pattern in an outfit. Here I did it again mixing leopard and stripes in one outfit. While in yesterday’s OOTD I used blue as the grounding color that occurred in all pieces of the outfit, this time I used black to ground the colors and taupe as the combining color. The taupe color of the sweater picks up the light colors of the leopard print’s background.

What Outerwear to Wear with Leopard and Stripes

The look is best with a neutral color classic coat. In this mixed prints and pattern outfit inspiration, I added my golden leather trench coat. It is a real statement piece. I like that the shade of the color is sort of muted and not right in the face gold like my golden shorts that I wear when I we go out dancing.
