Collecting photos of style icons
In my childhood, Jackie Kennedy or Jackie Onassis as her name was at that time, was someone of the many celebrities whom I admired for their great style. Growing up in Europe celebrities also included the various Princesses, Duchesses, Queens, etc. Like many gals my age at that time, I cut out celebrity photos from my grandma’s magazines. Of course, I had my granny’s permission. Most of my girl friends cut out photos from the red carpet and all the women of the aristocracy. Gowns and crowns where their hot thing. Interestingly, I always cut out Jackie. In retrospect, I was crazy about her cool signature sunglasses.
Jackie O.’s style of sunglasses became a classic
Last year, when browsing online stores for buying my “2013 addition of sunnies”, I stumbled upon the Jackie O sunglasses. Well I dismissed to buy them and went for the streetstyle cool purple mirrored sunglasses instead. Last year I thought the Jackie Os are such a classic, but I was not sure whether I would actually wear them. My hesitation was about their huge size. They are covering a lot of face! As a child I was never sure whether it was just a fashion thing or whether Jackie tried to hide behind the sunglasses.
I bought my childhood dream sunglasses
This year the Jackie O sunglasses again made my shortlist and they finally scored. I thought I give them a try and bought my pair of childhood dream sunglasses. Here they are! What do you think? I was really surprised that they look sort of interesting on me. May be it is the fact that they actually hide 1/3 of the face. What surprised me even more, is how often I actually wear them!
What are your favorite sunglasses? Did you have a style icon when you were a kid? Who was it? Do you still like her style? Let me know, I am curious. Send me an email.
