Forget about old fashion rules – they are the new It

I have a confession to make. I am again not listening to my late mother’s fashion rule not to pair brown and black in one outfit. In this work outfit, I disobeyed on purpose again like I did when wearing three neutrals, black, brown and white in one OOTD. I am wearing my brown booties with black tights, a black leather pencil skirt, a faux suede brown blazer, white cotton cardigan over my plaid shirt. You have seen the individual pieces of today’s outfit already in the posts at the links.

Styling my outerwear

My outerwear is composed of my short chocolate brown shearling coat, black hat, and brown bag. Sorry mom, I just have to do it again, and again.

Do you obey your mother’s fashion rules? If so, which ones? Which fashion rule do you find to be the most obnoxious rule and why? Which fashion rule is your biggest challenge? Let me know by email or twitter. I am curious.
