Alaska Fashion Week

Sounds unfamiliar? Like a joke? No kidding. The first show of Alaska Fashion Week took stage with two designers in Fairbanks last Sunday, and it was awesome. AWESOME! It started out with a singer, who as I understood it, was supposed to sing the anthem, but never did. I think this was either a misunderstanding of mine or a joke.

Then the show started. The presenter was a great entertainer pretending to be a magician. His acting was an excellent mix of magic, spooky, at the edge to voodoo with rap underlain. He reminded me of the guy in the Bond movie To Live and Let Die. His show and interaction with the models (see below) is a must see, non-describable. The music was perfectly chosen for the fashion show.

I was lucky to get a seat in the front row. This is what I call having a view. The fashion was not down coats, down skirts, or down pants. On the contrary: Really cutting edge designs. Wonderful beach wear, bathing suits, underwear, jumpsuits, casual clothes, and evening wear. I loved the bright colors of the beach collection. Herein, I particularly loved the long dresses. The green patterned one below was my favorite.

The bathing suits were very modest compared to what I have seen at the beaches in Europe, but in a positive way. They were very eye-catching, and would turn heads because they were intended to show the woman off. My absolute favorite one was the black one below. I could jump from the 3 meter board with a backward salto without fearing to loose parts of my clothes.

If I ever wore a jump suit, it would be one like the purple or green one from this collection. Actually, if I had to settle for one of them, I would have a hard time. One is nicer than the other. Just genius.

Not many women wear slips anymore. But living in cold climate, I do. Thus, I was happy to see they had a slip collection. Since I wear longer skirts and dresses, however, I would need longer versions.

Last, but not least the evening collection. Unfortunately, the photo of my favorite dress did not turn out well. Someone put the arm into the field of view of the camera. But the other ones were equally great.

This show was the proof that there is great fashion in Fairbanks. I thought it was worth the money watching the show,

If you found this interesting and missed the show, there will be a bigger show in Anchorage in April.
