While thanks to the positioning of the Rossby waves the Lower 48s have had a terrible cold winter, Alaska has had a relative mild winter so far. Well at least, what I call mild. By living in Alaska, I sort of got adapted to the cold. When i first came here, I did not understand why many Alaskans run around in shorts, bunny boots, and T-shirts when temperature are just below the freezing point. I could not imagine to be able to don bare legs in such temperature conditions. Well, at Sourdough status of 13, I am.
Why big boots? The warm feet conduct heat to the boots that themselves conduct heat to the colder surface. Thus, sandals or flip flops are a no-no. Way too cold.
I solved that problem of heat conduction by wearing my boot toppers again. For those who have not read my Top of the Boot review post, they are socks with a nice faux fur top. One can adjust the position of the faux fur top to any position from ankle high to knee-high. They are from Top of the Boot and come in different animal prints and even in bright colors for the daring fashionistas and younger ladies. Currently, Top of the Boot has a promotion for free shipping until February 28, 2014. The Top of the Boot promo code is TOTB2.
Just for style I added my shearling motorcycle jacket. It provides that stylish element of warm climate bloggers when they wear their coats open. However, I believe them that they feel cold and that they close the coat as soon as the photo shots are taken. I believe that for them it is like having taken my indoor outfit photo outside on a -30F (-34.4C) day.
