Capris were designed for summer vacation
In Europe, a favorite summer staple are cropped pants for weekends and the summer vacation. These cropped pants are called Capris. Capri is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea located in the Gulf of Naples in the Campania region of Italy. Capri used to be a favorite vacation destination for honeymooners in the mid 50s, early 60s and for young families in the mid 70s for European from middle and Northern Europe. European movie starts like Brigit Bardot or Sophia Loren made these cropped pants popular. Many European gals prefer capris over short shorts as the former look more dressy than the latter.
Styling capri for fall
This post demonstrates how to adapt this favorite summer staple for fall. I am wearing this cream colored leather capri with a floral top that pricks up the color of the cropped pants. The floral print has traces of brown, black and turquoise. As this top is sleeveless I wear a leopard cardigan for some extra insulation and to transfer the vibe towards fall colors. The leopard print works well with the floral pattern as it picks up the black and brown and is a couple of shades darker than the cream of the top. This means it stays in the same color scheme.
Think of your outerwear as an outfit
The black wool blazer adds some extra insulation for the commute to work and picks up the black in the leopard print. In the morning, temperatures are already in the upper 30s (~3oC). At the office, I take the blazer off. Doing so, makes this top and cardigan combination to an interesting, very work appropriate twinset. The nude slingbacks and the structured bag take the outfit up a notch towards a sophisticated look and add to the office appropriate vibe.
How do you extend the wear of your summer favorite clothes? Do you like capris? How do you style them? Send me an email, I am curious and would love to hear from you.
